Hallo!
I try to connect to a oracle8i database from a remote system.
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
is the answer.
If I try to connect local I got no problem to connect. Do you know any reason for this. Maybe you got a solution for my?
Thank you very much for help!

Did you specify the host name in your connect string???
ie you connect string should be like username/password@hostname when connecting from a remote system.
@hostname is not required when connecting from the local machine

The host is right as well (looked it up in tnsnames.ora again ;>)
Is there any difference if I use svrmgrl, sql*plus , sql worksheet or dba studio? May this cause the problem?

Hi,
Try using tnsping and see whether the connectstring is working properly

The solution of the discription in tnsnames.ora seems to be o.k.
I receive the correct IP from the host and it takes 40 ms.

What is your Oracle version?
Type software does not affect on your connection.
Connection is working properly.
HOw many instances are running on the host you are connected to?
What the instances names?
What is OS on the Server?
What is OS environments on the server (ORACLE_SID)?
Best wishes!
