I'm trying to export a user schema. When I do it from the client, I'm ending up with errors. Errors are as follows

    . . exporting table T1
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 904 encountered
    ORA-00904: invalid column name
    . . exporting table T2
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 1003 encountered
    ORA-01003: no statement parsed
    . . exporting table T3
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 904 encountered
    ORA-00904: invalid column name
    . . exporting table T4
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 1003 encountered
    ORA-01003: no statement parsed
    ...
    ...
    ...

But, when I export from the server, the export is completed successfully.

Can you tell me why this is happening?

Are the export utilities on the CLient the same as the server. You may have install the 8.1.6 on the client, but have 8.1.7 on the server.

You can import from 8.1.6 client to 8.1.7 server but not backward.

when you have two Oracle Version on the same box, Oracle will automatically use the newer version executeable, in your case, Oracle was using exp.exe on 8.1.7 and try to export the 8.1.6 database.

You have to specify and tell Oracle to use Oracle 8.1.6 utilities instead when you got the dump file and use imp utility to import to your database and you won't have problem.

    good luc k

Let me put my question straight forward.

Can I use 8.1.7 export utility on 8.1.6 database?

You can not use import/export THERE IS NO BACWARD compatibility in this case, because EXPORT/IMPORT views are different with 8.1.6.
When 8.1.6 created it did not know even about version 8.1.7.

May you will be able to manage it but I could not.
