    Question

    Has anyone used the OCP: Oracle8i DBA Architecture & Administration and Backup & Recovery Study Guide from Sybex? I'm looking to purchase a good study guide for these exams. I tried the Exam Cram for PL/SQL and wasn't impressed. Found it to be poorly written. Any comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Randy

    Question

    Hey Randy;
    You know I did my Oracle8 OCP and bought, borrowed or looked at just about every book under the sun and have yet to see (or smell) a Sybex book. Where do you get them?

    Sybex books are available at Barnes&Noble. What books did you use?

    I have used Sybex for all the exams except for Sql in addition to our ILT oracle issued books. I passed all my exams over 80% so far and have really gotten to know what Oracle does through using them. They help fill in the blanks because the Oracle textbooks do not explain in detailed english what the features really do. I have also used Examcram just to get another perspective. They are also good except for Sql. I think M. Ault should rewrite his Sql book. It doesn't follow the Sql curriculum outlined by Oracle at all. I recently purchased a new text called the Sql bible put out by Boston software and I am really impressed so far. It has outlines, examples, practice exams, and full detailed explanation of facts somethng I think Oracle corp. writers should take note of when they are writing their ILT books.

    I always used ILT and STS tests with a dash of braindumps from cramsession.com.

    I found that to be the winning combination for me but I'd like to see the Sybex books.

    Randy, amazon.com has all the sybex books. The AA & Backup sections come bundled in one book. The AA portion has gotten very good reviews but the B&R section has poor reviews. I'm using the SQL PL/SQL sybex book, the good thing about it is it is very focused on the objectives outlined by oracle for the exam. So far so good.

    Mr. Hanky, What kind of sick weirdo names himself after a celtic folk rock band, or better yet an inanimate handkerchief! By the way, that speedracer was some cartoon is news to me. I only watched Tom and Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, Pink Panther, Dungeons and Dragons, Bionic Six, Thundercats, Johnny Quest, Flinstones, among others. ;-)

    Kudos to the weirdos.
