    Hi All

    We are using...

    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
    CORE 8.1.7.0.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 3.4.1.0.0 - Production

    Our product works with
    JSP(presentation layer)
    JRUN(webserver)
    ORACLE8I(database)

Now the client wants to use DB2 instead of Oracle8i. Our system uses a great amount of procdures, ref cursors, etcc..etc

    The list of questions are

    1. is it possible to convert from oracle 8i to db2
    2. is it possible to reuse the same procedures, etc..etc..

    Looking forward for some answers..

    Thumbs up

Please check out the oracle migration workbench in oracle site, you may get some solution there.

I doubt very much whether Oracle's Migration Workbench will tell you how to get from Oracle to DB2.

I would check out the IBM site. I'm sure they have a migration tool to switch from Oracle to DB2. As for the stored procedures I'm afraid PL/SQL is an Oracle language. You will definitely have to recode these.

On the plus side, I've seen a few examples of procedural extension for Ingres and they look almost identical to PL/SQL. I'm sure DB2 must have something very much like this too.

    Good Luck!

IBM has a tool to help convert from Oracle to DB2. This is the first time i have ever heard of someone doing it other than in fictitious IBM marketing literature.

    Good luck.

You would be surprised. One of the companies I'm currently consulting for has a world-wide full-use license to DB2, Oracle and SQL Server. Oracle isn't necessarily going to win in the battle of the DBs here

Have you ever heard the saying, "You need to speak to the organ-grinder, not the monkey!"

I'm afraid in this thread I'm the monkey . I've had occasion to install and use DB2 but I'm far from being an expert. The first thing I would do with any DB2 issue is contact IBM support.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

    Cheers mate
