backup - sbttape

Yesterday I was trying to do an online backup to sbttape.
The backup was just hanging for a long time before i killed it.
No backups are recorded in the rman.
How do I find out what is wrong?

How do I check if the tape is full? Probably this is a silly question but i really don't have a clue

Now I started monitoring my rman backup and see these
errors from the device manager, what do these mean:
media critical event: waiting for one writable volume to backup pool 'orcl'tape(s) for prod

If anybody encountered this error during rman backup to tape please help me.

Sounds like you don't have any available tapes in the "orcl" tape pool.

actually it seems that there are lot of tapes but no pool allocated to oracle.

Can anyone send me link for creating pools/ volumes/troubleshooting problems in Legato.
