I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on an Sun Blade 100 running SOlaris 8 07/01. Everything seems to go ok but when I try to use dbassist to create a db I get a ORA-01034 error. I have tried creating a starter DB and get the same error.

Also if I try to do a svrmgrl with connect internal I get a ORA-12154 error

    Any ideas??

What was the error messages did you get appart from the ORA-1034. It looks like that you are running short of resources.

    nope only error

That was the only error. I have 30Gb disk and 1gb memory - I setup the params as required in the install guide.

That error typically points to kernal parameters or environment variable setup. I would look at the kernal parameters first and increase most of the defaults.

check your /etc/system for semaphores and shared memory. Bump up the semaphore limits. Follow the documentation.
