Hi there,
I recently joined a company in Yorkshire (UK) and it looks like they want me to go for OCP 8i DBA. I am certainly up for this. At the moment I have 6 years as a developer and about a year as a DBA so although im coming on, I have lots to learn yet.... can any of you give me some advice on how to approach studying up for the OCP exams?
IE, do I need the CBT's that oracle seem to be trying to sell through the OCP programme, or is it enough to sit and read read read the manuals and practice...
I did some of the downloadable tests and some of the questions are either a) appalingly worded or b) very very obscure.... saying that I still was getting 70%+ :-)

Welcom to the world of OCP is all I can say. You can count on "a) appalingly worded or b) very very obscure" for each and every test you take. Is your company going to send you to Oracle's instructor led training classes? This is the best source of material for the OCP. I hated the CBT's, very slow moving and a real snoozefest. If they are your only option than go with them, also get the STS so you can get used to the abstract test questions.
Your best bet is the ILT (instructor Led Training) material from Oracle. Either go to the classes (mucho $$$) or get copies somewhere. 96.39742% of the OCP test questions come from this material.
Please excuse the rough estimate.

I only used the OCP Study Guide from Sybex. They are good one. I can not afford to buy any other material or attend any training. I installed Oracle8i Personal Edition and practiced a lot on it. I passed IZ0-001 with 51/57 last weekend. I do find one question not mentioned in the Sybex book about pairwise comparison in multiple columns subquery.
Now I am heading towards IZ0-023. Hope I can pass with the limited resources.

Don't worry about getting 70%+. That's normal at first. I guess nobody ever passed an OCP exam with 100% (gee, if somebody did, I would be really astonished).
Yes, ILT is best, I've been to all courses, they really do help a lot. Buy the Jason S. Couchman's books, great stuff, 180 questions per exam!
96.39742%? How did you calculate that :-)
