    Hi,

I'm sure you would have come across this question many times.
I have to move a 8.1.6 database(95GB) from a NT4.0 to a Unix(sun solaris 5.8). Can someone tell me the steps involved or point me to existing documentation. I sure do appreciate your help.

    Thanks
    Vj

Export/import is your only option to switch platforms.
    1. install oracle on solaris
    2. create database, tablespaces, roles, users in new db
    3. exp full=y on nt box
    4. imp full=y on solaris box

Just for my knowledge, is it necessary to pre-create the roles and users in the new database where the import will be done? Aren't the create statement syntax for these already included in the dump file that will be imported?

Yeah, they're included. I like to pre-create the users because I think it is a cleaner implemenation.
