    Hi all,

I am testing client side connection.
Client side: window2000, oracle 8.1.7 client
    Server: oracle 8.0.5.2.1/NT 4.0 -sp6

I can connect from my laptop to my production DB using sqlplus user/password@Servicename.
then I go to registry and set LOCAL=ServiceName (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/)
now I can use user/password to connect to my remote server, and don't have to provide my service name (my laptop is window2000 professional)

I have another machine (windows2000 server) and I did the same thing, but I can not make use user/password work. It returned ORA-12560: TNSrotocol adapter error.

Do anyone of you know how to fix it? I deinstall and re-install again, same thing. Please help...

    Thank you

Check you local TNSNAMES.ORA file on the client machine properly and make sure that it matches the entries in LISTENER.ORA on the server.
