I try to startup an instance on Oracle 817 at Solaris8 and got this error message. Does anybody get this message before?

Has this ever worked before? If so, what has changed on the box?

This server was working fine. After I un-install 816 and installed 817, I got this error.

Check to make sure your environment variables are pointed to the right $OH.

If you have metalink support, I would suggest that you do a search on the above error. There is a note on it, which explains different scenarios case by case.

Hi
I have faced the same problem.
Possible solutions are:
Check:1
-----------
Pls.check the setup files for network driver and confirm that net8 s/w is correctly installed on the server.
Check:2
---------
There may be chances of bad sectors in your Hard Disk, if so, try to fix it. This is what happened to me, I have fixed the bad sectors and solved the problem.
Hope this will help you...

The real solution:
Set up /etc/system according to Oracle Installation Guide.
Very tough!

Number of processes
Check that the 'processes' line in the init[SID].ora file is reasonable. I had the same problem, and it turned out that the installer ignored my specification of 30 processes and set it to 150.

I had exactly the same problem after completing an upgrade.
It turned out there was a script that resembled the name
genlsch
This altered files in some manor that meant they would now use different libraries.
It was documented in the upgrade manual and covered about 1 line. It was easy to overlook and I did overlook it for 2 days.
I got the error whilst connecting to SQL Plus, the database was running.
I believe the problem is your new installation is still pointing at some of the old libraries.
Environment variables won't affect this.
