Hi
i was taken by shock today when i read about the thsi news that ibm has brought over informix .could somebody through some light on what impact this may have on the databse market ?Hmmmm i was thinking wheather this was IBM strategic move to migrate informix users to DB2???at thsi rate then probably oracle may buy out sybase and then we might have only 2 databses db2 and oracle (dangerous to think)
(hmmmmmm i no sql server exits or does it??)

Its all business strategy.
But as of now Oracle Is a White Elephant Well proven its DB capability by its DB market share. So we dont have to worry which DB comes or goes Oracle is there.

IBM, PS/2, OS/2....need I say more? They will take a perfectly good product and screw it up too....

I think the next ones should be
- Microsoft buys Sybase. ("The circle is now complete. When I left, I was but the learner. Now *I* am the master").
They could deep-six the database, but they could take the awesome datawindows from PB and incorporate them into VB, which desperately needs a good data-window (grid). They could also then funnel PB into PB.NET. ;)
- Finally, Oracle should buy MySQL.
I think this would pretty effectively consolidate the industry into the big 3.

Why not they all make their product to be an open source?

Nah, I just think IBM has a lot of braindead ideas. They used to try and be all things to all people and that got them into trouble... The have finally started concentrating on their core competencies (although I don't exactly consider AS/400 a positive compentency..) They've got a lot of really bright people there, it's just when you get the marketing people together with the managers you run into problems...Quote:
