db wont startup after change

Hi Friends,

Ora10g db

I cannot connect to my database after the SYS ADMIN change the computer
name on windoz2003. How do I resolve this please.

What Error are you getting?

Also ensure that in listener and tnsnames, if you have used host name then it will give connection problem. Better to use IP Address.

first learn how to change the hostname in Oracle then tell your manager to change the servers names

correct, I dont understand how he can ask such a question, seems to me he does not work in computing industry

Of course im serious dear:confused: it's just that we have lots of projects today and I do lots of maintenance work and all the back-end task and adhoc-reports lots of management reports and DB clean-ups. I inherited an apps migrated from Foxpro and MsSql not normalized and no-good design DBs, most dont have primary keys,most have garbage data since encoding don't have much validation. Im also supporting VB programmers who dont have much knowledge in Oracle and I have to teach them SQLPLUS to build the code inside the VB. My time is just devoted to maintenance of the database fixing errors lots transaction. Its so complex cause we have distributed processing. I even didnt tell my manager I already messed up some of our database :o I dont have time to learn new DBA knowledge. I am stuck-up since 2 years ago. Sometimes I envy those Sales Lady at the Mall, or the janitress, they have so simple job and simple life.

If you messed up the database and no one has found out by now, then I doubt if the database was important at all. Your life would be easier if you just toss out the window...

if you learned something, that might help, how can you teach people when you have knowledge yourself, you are doing them and your company a great disservice

Actually dear it was already messed up before I entered, lots of cleaning-up to do when I converted them to Oracle, I created a script to ETL foxpro/Mssql to oracle and I let another assistant dba (already 6 years in the company ahead of me for 3 years and still knows so little, she act like an operator) when I check the table after some time I see lots of duplicates. Its a delimma really to delete duplicates on a table that you dont know which one is the duplicate or you have to compare all the columns to do it.

Yeah sometimes I feel I really not deserving to stay, I feel so dumb when I talk to davey and abhaysk:o but you know we have converted our database to oracle and its easier to manage than b4 and I am the one who have more oracle knowledge here. Its just that the application was not a good design. Its runs as if an interim solutions only. Well we have some apps are running fine with smaller transaction which are easier to manage. But the bigger ones are the ones getting errors and very hard to manage. And what complicates the problem is the distributed processing, coupled with replication which sometimes stack-up. We have to pull data from the branches to make a centralized db and some data are sent back to
them. I suggested to the manager to end this nightmare of distrubuted processing we outsource a web-based apps with one central/main database
so to avoid but she doesnt believe me:rolleyes: she act as if she is brilliant
but all she knows as designing using access and foxpro:D well in fairness its a better design tool than nothing at all.
My point is, please try to understand my shortcomings ok:)
