Hi Wannabe.
Congrats on landing a position in this current economic climate.
What exactly are you doing?
How many databases are you in charge of/involved with ?
What size db's ?
What versions ?
What platforms, if Unix how much shell scripting/admin do you need to know ?
Do you use Parallel server, connection manager, MTS, Onames technology.
Just interested to know the kind of skill set required for a $95,000 job. Starters with no exp. in UK can't expect more than £20,000 - £25,000
Hi Sureshy
How much dosh does a DBA with 3 years exp get in uk :-?
im not realy "in-charge" of any dbs yet. i have gone on to a couple of clients with sr. dba types for a few days. other than that, i am setin up backup system in the office for our dbs here...
Hi Pando
You could command from £35k - £45k dependant upon experience.
Obviously contract will be more. Although you will be subject to UK IR35 tax code, which means that you will be taxed the same percentage as a permanent employee
If you go to http://www.jobserve.co.uk and search 'oracle dba', you will get a list of about 600 positions currently available in UK, with varying salaries and skill set requirements.
Pando, not as much as an 8i OCP with no experience in the USA :)
Money varies wildly in the UK. Banks in London tend to pay really well, but still vary. Over the last year I've seen between £45,000-£120,000 for permanent work. Remember, housing costs in London are mad!
As for contract work, it depends on the level of skill and the length of the contract. I've seen £1,500 for a single day down to £25/hour.
You pay your money and you take your chances!
