checkout the chapters,take oracle documentation and practice all these chapters.

practice STS very well if possible previous sts also.

Curious. Did you pass all 5 exams within 6 months or just the 8i DBA exam.

Yeah, the study guides from Oracle UNiversity courses are really good. But one still needs STS if do not have much practical experience.

Ocp has enriched many new concepts and features of 8i

it made me Dba from nowhere but only with hardwork and dedication.

For six months i concentrated only on 8i, 10 hours daily
masterd the basic arechitecture and troubleshooting some workshop on recovery,backup and tuning.

This certification made me endurace to get to know real fact " there is nothing impossible with hardwork"

so no looking back .

for those who are appearing the exams :

If you have ILT books,read all text atleast 4 times to know complete concepts also do all the workshop exercise

After learning you will feel to know how wonderful and hard to work as Dba but you will enjoy much in the future

Hi,

STS stands for self-test software and is a bank of practice test questions. One set can be bought for each exam, with the price about $80-$100. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 or 200 questions per set, I forget which.

Selftest Software has an alliance with Oracle, so they are probably the closest practice questions to the real test out there. Actually, you may find some of the questions in STS on each of the exams.

ILT, I think, stands for Instructor Lead Training and is distributed only through Oracle's training classes.

One of the book reviewers on Amazon.com once reported having passed the Oracle 8i DBA exam on Introduction to SQL with just the _Oracle 8i: The Complete Reference_ book. Is there any other one-to-one correspondence between Oracle Press books and Oracle 8i DBA exams (other than the Oracle Press 8i DBA exam guide, which reportedly didn't contain enough information)?

Also, now that Oracle 9i has been released, when will an Oracle 8i upgrade exam be released?

I recently finished the OCP DBA track in just under a month with (at the time) almost no experience. The best way to prepare for the exams is to take the OCP ILT courses from Oracle sponsored vendors. When you know the material, the stelf tests from http://www.selftestsoftware.com are the ultimate OCP exam prep materials. The tests (one for each OCP exam) have around 300 questions each, and cost roughly $100 (but I believe you can get a discount for ordering all 5 together). The benefits are well worth the cost. The self tests are harder than the OCP exams, and the format is exactly the same, which prepares you for exam day.

but you have to work very hard.

There are two great books for solaris 7 tests

1: Examcram for solaris 7

2: Solaris 7 administration training guide by bill calkins
ISBN # 1578702496

Other good reference books include

1: A practical guide to solaris by sobell

2: solaris 8 complete reference


most books avaiable in the market are for soalris 7 ,not much good books
avaiable for soalris 8
