can some1 please clear this up for me once and for all. Does this new certification requirement only concern the 9i track or is it 8i too?Quote:
Yanban - if you are doing 8i cert, you only need to take the exams. 9i cert requires the class IF you have not taken any 9i tests yet.
Also,
is this true?Quote:
...note that version 8 exams will retire in March 2002, with 9i exams starting soon.
i have purchased the Sybex 8i books...and after reading these articles from the above URL...I am starting to doubt my decision. Is this market being flooded by too much IT human resources?
You will have to meet the requirement for any OCP track, in case you have not passed at least one exam. If you still have
a doubt, contact your local Oracle Hotline.
Yes, Oracle 8 DBA track has been retired. If you want to know what is still available check:

dont worry too much, my collegue atteneded 9i DBA fundamentals 1 exam 2 days ago, he is not experienced at all with 9i but hey he passed with just 2 weeks practice with 9i, one weekend reading and he said if he said the exam was a piece of cake.... Of course he is very experienced with 8i. The conclusion is there is not much difference in 8i/9i examsQuote:

so it is mandatory to attend a hands on training workshop that will cost me $2000 US?
Is there an online equivalent and if so how much is that?
Yes unfortunately, provided you have not passed an exam before 15-06-2002. The alternative to paying $2000 would be the follow the training online ( $1500 ).

The website is not very clear if this affect 8i as well. I sent an email to one of my contacts at OU, an OCP Progrm Manager. He replied to my two questions below:
"Is the Oracle8i Track affected by this change? That Candidate Guide was not updated to reflect the change. So, could someone start fresh with that Track without needing to take a course (which are all 9i courses except the Intro to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL course that was
sted)?"
"This only affects the OCP-level, not the OCA-level, correct?"
"Yes, this only affects candidates looking to be certified at the OCP-level on Oracle9i as a DBA." -Mike Serpe, OU
His answer may be a bit fuzzy too, considering he answered both in one sentence!
That is exactly correct. You can become an OCA without meeting the requirement, but if you want to move forward to OCP certification you will have to meet the requirement. Becoming 9i OCA would be an alternative without spending extra money. (Unauthorized training partners could still offer this OCA track.)
