It may put the brakes on paper DBAs, and that certainly is a plus.

It may put the brakes on paper DBAs, and that certainly is a plus.
But on the positive note, all the brain dumping, lending the stuff out to friends, and all the bs will stop.
Because having followed the course, you've already got what you need.
And also I think(my personal opinion again), the exams must become more challenging. Like setting up a oracle env+os. and ask the candidate to perform several tasks which he/she would perform as a dba.
It'll hit their exam fee revenues because that figure certainly will drop. But it might bring out a more credible ocp.
It's a development(call it a move if you may), and aspiring IT professionals got to adapt to it.
I have read everything but could not get the answer for my case (neither from Oracle's webite of this forum) :
If I have not passed anything yet and thinking about going to 8i, do I need to follow this course ?
Thanks for all
Well if understood correctly, you'll need to take the course as well.
Don't tell me that Tarry! you've just knocked me out! :((
Has anybody faced my case ( see 2 posts above) and can give me an answer on which I can rely on ?
( just to know if I have to carry on working on it or just giving up for a while and working on assaulting my boss until he pays up! )
Thanks to all off you for this brillant site!
Yanban,
I hope that i'm wrong but that's what stated in the url which was posted.
I Suggest you call up oracle and ask them yourself.
Tarry
For people who are talking about making the exams harder, why not make them like the beta exams. Rather than 56 questions in 1:45 try 191 questions in 3 hours. Not nice.
I too think exclusivity should be based on difficulty not price. This goes for the OCM also.
Cheers
Yanban - if you are doing 8i cert, you only need to take the exams. 9i cert requires the class IF you have not taken any 9i tests yet.
I agree with Tim!!
The Oracle Certification should be about skill set. The certification should NOT be about “Can I afford to take this class?” I agree with Oracle about trying to raise the quality of its certification (marketing speak for Oracle needs to eliminate paper DBAs). But raising the quality of the test and the “market value” of the certification should equate to “Damn that’s a hard certification to get!!” not “Damn that’s too expensive to try to get!!!”
Venting out loud! ! !
Wait a second, do I miss this point somewhere ..
How does Oracle know whether we have taken any course from them or Partner COlleges? How do they stop us from taking the exam without taking any of their Oracle classes? There isn't any strict rules yet ..
