There's a lot of difference between 8 and 8i. So go on with your study for 8i. My suggestion will be to complete the 8i track before march2003 ;)Quote:

Oracle University (UK) were a little unsure, but have since confirmed that the course requirement does NOT apply to the 8i track.

The rest is my two bits, feel free to ignore, deride or correct :
What Oracle have done is either incompetent (no warning), shameful (profiteering) or just plain misguided.
Firstly I do not see that there was a need to spring this announcement. A large percentage of people do not have their OCP funded by the company so have to decide fairly early in the process whether the result merits the cost and if it is affordable.
Secondly, there has to be a question of motivation on the "one course" stipulation. Do Oracle seriously believe the Introduction to SQL is going to make a DBA more practical when they face a live recovery issue? The cynical among you may look to the Oracle profit line.
Thirdly, I do believe the value of an OCP should be maintained. I believe the tests should be hard and combined with a practical exercise such as those posed by the Oracle simulators.
Under no circumstances should cost be a limiting factor.
Apologies for the rant but this has seriously hacked me off as I'm about to take the first exam on Friday. I know some people may hope to get a job on the strength of an OCP although most people including myself think this highly unlikely. OCP, surely, is designed to prove a basic level of understanding in the key areas of the product. One thing an OCP does do is add an edge to one's CV and demonstrate a degree of commitment and dedication in the individual. As such it should continue to be available at "reasonable" cost.
Question for Oracle, what happens when your track dries up and you have retired the 8i accreditation? Will the product then be known as expensive with the greater burden of limited qualified resource. Is this really a good thing?

i read the requirement info at Oracle and it came across that it was only the 9i track. If it does not include the 8i track i will be a very happy man.
It's still unclear, because I asked oracle netherlands and they said to have heard of the uproar in the us. But since i'm at the end of my 8i core path track, it didn't apply to me. But they didn't specify if it was ok to go on with the 8i as before.Quote:

Why do they include the 9i Upgrade ILT in this. That is somewhat confusing, considering you'd only complete the UPGRADE exam going from 8i - 9i????? So why are people saying if you've sat a previous 8i OCP exam you are exempt? confusing....

The reason that they have the 9i New Features course in the list isn't necessarily for those who are already 8i certified. In this case, expereinced DBAs who have not started the OCP program (and want to) can take the 9i New Features course to refresh their existing skills on Oracle. This will be relevent to them while taking the 4 core 9i OCP exams...and fulfill the hands-on course requirement.
That's the explanation I got from my contact at OU.
Thought few persons would be interested by this :
- I got from Oracle University (in France) that people going for OCP DBA 8i do not have to do this 'hand on' course.
Also, you get 15 minutes extra for each test if English is not your native langage.
That's good news for me and I am gonna work hard on this when I'll come back from Holiday! :)

I'm taking the 8i exams in english to avoid translation errors, I noticed that extra 15' issue before starting the exam. However, I didn't notice the extra time on the clock shown in the screen during the test: the time started from 1h30' (or 2h for 1z0-001). I thought the extra time was reserved for answering the survey.
Fortunately, until now it wasn't necessary for me to spend all the time given, so I don't know if there is really a bonus.
