and I have to do manual striping. This way I can use 100% of my disk
space.
Dont tell me raid 10 still writes faster than ordinary config/set-up

Nope hun ! Using raw disks will give you the fastest performance.But disk management will be very tough if you have to handle,say, 15-20 disks. and what about data protection hun ?? You won't have it if you are using raw disks.:cool:Quote:

Yeah, I know that hun:)...I must keep a good backup though.
And u know what? Disk usually give-in(crash) after 4yrs usage.
And what disk usually 1st to expire is the disk where the redo logs
are placed. Coz redo logs are the most active part of oracle system.
So I placed redo logs on serapate disk, maybe combine it on the disk
where the indexes are. It this way its easier to rebuild indexes
if it crashes. Then after 4 yrs move the redo logs to a newer disk
to be proactive b4 in can crash.:D

That's really good honey !:D The only thing is that you have convince the management to buy you disks on a regular basis.Can be a tough job, if you ask me:D
Nah..its easy to justify to buy new disk after 4yrs for data expansion
too. If fact we buy new servers every 5 yrs and consider the old ones
with a zero value coz its costly to maintain old servers than buying
a new one.

And besides we have yearly allotment budget for IT resources.
Actually I only have around 6 disks on each server a total of
150GB...we only have smaller data.

Yeah, I got $100 before but only once in a blue moon, and the
vendors ask lots of favor from me like using office supplies and
other resources in the office.:rolleyes: Actually i dont want to
accept it coz its too small:D But i dont want to hurt his feelin or
insult him.
