I am getting a surround sound system this year, still not sure which.
Prolly a Denon reciever and the Infinity TS-750 speakers, there are a lot of deals out there on the web but some sites are really sketchy.

Good idea going for the folding stock. That's much better for mowing people down in tight quarters. :rolleyes:Quote:
Great ! ! ! Now go ahead and shoot the developersQuote:
I built this last month for my xmas present.
http://s89484635.onlinehome.us/tsumaniDream.jpg
1GB gaming ram
3rd party copper heat sink with fan
fan on clear case forces air into cpu fan
9 fans altogether
cpu and power supply have a throttle on the front so when your not gaming its real quiet. I can drop from 5500 rpms to about 1000.
Its made a huge difference in my online first person shooter game, buddy just called today to tell me he can feel the beat down from the new machine.
He is a placebo junky so He could put a sticker on his machine and play with confidence from it. But when he upgraded his cpu and mobo he started handing me my hat, that was difficult to take. But it proved to me that its more than just a 400.00 video card, so I upgraded the entire thing.
:)
Perhaps you can upgrade to a full t3 line? ;)Quote:

What kind of first person shootem do you play with that monstrosity?
Dont laugh until you hear me out. I have tried newer games and they all lack things. The game I play is Quake III. Yes an old game. However SPEED is NOT Capped. We have figured out how to take advantage of the physics modeling engines rounding errors. For example a runner goes 320 units per second. His rocket goes 800. By circle-strafe-jumping I can quickly get to 600. The best I have heard of is 2000 units per second. Now being a commercial pilot I LOVE the speed. I also set my FOV ( field of vision ) to 130 from 90, this makes it a bit of a fishbowl perspective but makes the speed even more dramatic.Quote:

We play only custom maps. Our site has many cool artists that churn out new custom maps, there are zillions. Fight in the sky from derigable to derigable ? Planets? Chunks of golf courses in space ?
As for the speed, they made one map that is a mile long hallway and you practice the speed there. Orange smoothie mod allows you to have realtime digital speed in your sites. I can get to 1400 but perhaps higher with the new rig. I can tell you that the new rig allows me to 'feel the force' immediate, one circle-strafe-jump and I am zinging along pretty good.
One guy in canada turned on recording-demo and caught up to his own rockets and then passed them, it was hilarious to watch.
Anyway I know most guys I am playing 5 have stopped off at our house whilst traveling the country. Last March I flew to Boston to play at the annual lan party at a hotel conference room.
Kinda geeky but fun :)
I have had both shoulders and my knee rebuilt, so the one nice thing about this virtual sport is I cannot get injured. Surgeries take a long time to get over. http://s89484635.onlinehome.us/shoulder3.jpg
Fortunately Q3 is network lightweight. Worldupdates of objects and vectors are sent to and from the server and all images and rendering is done locally on the client.Quote:

PING is KING. I nearly quit with a lousy 150 ping and terminal lag-frag.
Then came comcast cable internet :)
33 ping is awesome.

ROFL...Good one!

I've tried Quake years ago, I couldn't get into it. My original first person shooter is none other than DOOM, I STILL love that game. I have DOOM III at home. The game I play now is Half-Life's Counter Strike.
I agree, there is nothing like a low ping. I generally run in the 20's playing Counter Strike.
Recently I could not get into it. I was too busy to play and then was too busy building the pc, so when I hopped on the new rig it felt great. But when started playing people I was horrible, I could not believe how fast the action was, high-speed jousting, all the noise in my headphones, I just exited for a while.Quote:

Chicago cop friend I used to work with as Flight instructors never got the hang of circle-strafe and insisted I get SOF, omg do I hate that slow boring game, never played it again.
Q3 is back to fun, the 1v1 duels with my buddy are really fun.
Man you guys are geeks, date much!?
;)
Give me a guitar and a nice ANALOG tube amp any day.
Doom was my favorite game on SNES, I downloaded the 95 version, I also have Quake 2 which I love. That is it, my home PC is a 233MHZ Pentium II, pretty sad huh?
Some day I'll get a game/multi-media box but for that kinda coin I'll always opt for a slammin new guitar or amp.
Just this 43-year old hag http://s89484635.onlinehome.us/inez_shot.jpgQuote:

Thats a pic of her changing my kids diaper.
I wanted a drum kit around 3 years of age, mom came home with a tamborine :o
I thought about buying a guitar and amp, prolly more tolerable than a drum set. Maybe I should start with a used acoustic guitar first. I have big hands but I might be el stinko at it anyway.
Tell me about the satisfaction you get from playing it when you get home from work.
I haven't played a shooter in a long time, but just started on Half-Life 2. Holy crap, how things have changed since Tomb Raider (1).
"We don't go to Ravenholm" -- yeah, you got that right. I nearly crapped myself playing that.
Man you guys are geeks, date much!?
Yeah, I'd say he does! Hag, riiiight! wink wink nudge nudge.
but just started on Half-Life 2
I didn't know half life 2 was out? I'm kind of wanting it I suppose.

I took her to hawaii a couple times 2 and 3 week stints but when I took her the last time to marry her I was closing the deal so I explained that we really needed to watch the budget and got out of there in less than a week - lol. Good gal she had my baby girl at 40.

Has to be, how many 40 year olds are willing to have a baby? I have yet to meet my first.
I turned 40 this year, and afraid I'm going to have to step it down a notch or two just to feel comfortable at the prospect then, hope she is one whos "elevator" doesn't, quite reach the top because I don't look like I used to and I don't have alot of money.
Now Mr. Hanky, thats sad.
Ah, just returned from a Polar expedition, eh? Never mind -- you can just pay and download it from their site -- if it hadn't been for that convenience I think I'd never have bothered, but I'm glad I did. My wife isn't though. She's heard enough about zombies, headcrabs, and toxic leapers to last a lifetime.Quote:

I turned 40 last year and proclaimed a cleaner 2nd half but she likes her wine and I like my beer. The scariest thought in the world is to not be around for my baby girl at least until she hits 18. This darn career/field does not help much - I am going to post a mid-life crisis thread over the weekend. Her brother is a stinking millionaire and of course he is not in I.T.Quote:

She actually tried to give me a boy. I told her when the baby fat came off she would want another baby, she sold all our stuff, then when lil C hit 3 she offered a baby boy to me. We went to fertility clinics for 6 mos, we got preggo and lost it. Her eggs and my 100k count were collapsing, the fertility graph is like that after 40 SO GET BUSY :)
Best thing ever to happen to me is my lil soccer buddy we just practiced in the oakwood floor dining room. Dont grow old with out little ones.
As for the choice I always liked this advice - Find a gal thats 'just' hot enough to turn you on. Then she is eating out of your hand all the time. Too many of us go for the 'I want something out of my league' and thats high maintenance.
Good luck Alchemy - I mean that.
I am editing this because I think the most important thing for you was left out. My wife values LOVE over money or looks. Lets be clear though she slaughters my budget, I mean you meet women who make 23k and you hand them 100k and they will find a way to scale up to 110k in spending. I just put 10% into 401k and hope for the best. When she met me I was a buffer guy ( 3 surgeries take it out of you )
but the main thing for her was someone who believes in loving their wife.
She is a mind blowing cook and the house is immaculate but she earns exactly 0.00 however my kid is smart because she is with her constantly.
I'm trying to say there are women who dont care about money and youthfullness, they want a protector, provider and someone who appreciates them.
So get going!
:D lol

Funny you mention going after the high maintenance women, that sure was me. Now, I'm leaning towards the OTHER end of the spectrum, like that old song from the 60's, "If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, go and get an ugly wife"...ROFL:D
LOL
Finally some football, bronco's lose and season is over..
Hmmm, bit of a kick-in-the-teeth for Mrs Alchemy!Quote:

LOL...no Dave, it might be considered a kick in the teeth to a future mrs alchemy. I was sharing one of those moments with, come to think of it, with total strangers...LOL. Joking aside, Mrs Alchemy will not be ugly to mr alchemy, regardless of how she looks.
Options&Gig at Google-ran into a couple of guys who just made a cool M
cashing out.
Nostalgia any1?

Hey BJE_DBA, Ever heard of a Quake II mod called Kots (King of the Server)?
Don't know about the rest of you but once a computer nerd always a computer nerd. It's what we do for a living and their's noway to shed it. I'll spend all day getting fustrated with developers, then come home and spend the next two hours playing CTF on Unreal Tournament as stress releave (it does wonders).
As for me I think having a spouse who's in the same line of work is a good thing, that way at the end of the day she asks you "how was your day?" you can really explain it to her and she'll understand. My Oracle Apps Developer fiance` is my best friend and after all isn't that what we're all looking for anyway?
You're going to marry a . . . *cough* . . . *splutter* . . . *gasp* . . . . developer ?Quote:

Yes, a Developer! I know, I know. But if you think about it, it's a pretty good gig. I'm the DBA and she's the developer only thing is if she writes bad code I can't shoot her but I don't think that's going to happen she's a solid coder. Besides, it's nice to come home and tell her that I had some developer come up to me wanting to know what "Dual" was we both can have a good laugh.
It's that thing that Zell Miller challenged Chris Matthews to. ;)Quote:

Judging from the name, it's a table with two rows and two columns :)
Imagine the fun in our house. My partner's an SQL Server developer!Quote:
