You asking me? If so - I meant mounting a 32bit Oracle on AIX 4.3.3 with a 64bit Oracle AIX 5.1. I didn't think it was possible. Looked up metalink..folks say there are issues.Quote:

ok fair enough with aix, never touched it - doable with solaris 8 - 9
you can mount a 8i database with 9i binaries with no problems

If this is correct .. My job will be so easy for next couple of days. I couldn't believe this. ANy way I will try now. I am thinking I have to have same binaries on the other box to recover hot/cold backup and migrate the binaries to higher version.

Thanks for all your input! I looked further at the db, and the 3 tables with BLOBs and LONG RAWs are actually empty. (I can't believe I didn't check this earlier!) So, the exp/imp should be fine.

I'm almost positive you can mount an 8i instance with 9i binaries. My concerns were the word size and OS difference. Also with RMAN, wasn't sure how that would work to make a duplicate with those differences. Let us know what you find with your testing.
