Independents can bid on the opportunities … consulting companies do have an edge in that they usually include a senior DBA as part of the bid … he/she may not do any of the work, but the name is on the bid to prop it up. As an independent you need a lot of references, etc.

I am writing my final DBA exam in a week or two and then I will start working on the developer track. What resources are you using in your preparation for writing the developer exams? … I have noticed there does not seem to be as much material out there (i.e. books, etc) as there is for DBA preparation. Any direction would be appreciated … I was thinking of signing up for the Oracle Learning Network … they have an $399US offer until Nov 30th … has anyone used this training? Thoughts/Comments about it would be appreciated.

I heard OLN's contents are good but delivery very poor, you can barely understand the contents on internet due to communication problems (even with T1)

I used the Couchman's books, my Oracle University ILT material and the free STS questions on the Internet. I just bught yesterday "Oracle Certified Professional by Christopher Allen" ISBN 0072193336, it's a brand new book (for the last 2 Developer exams).

The exams for the Developer track are sort of more practical than the DBA track, meaning that for the DBA exams you need the information in your head in order to pass, while for the Developer exam, the experience is enough.
