I think you are on the right track. While you go through your education process try to apply your Support knowlege to database administration concepts. Good luck on your journey.

It's stupid to discuss regarding Ocp.
Ocp does helps peoples like me , i am working as junior Dba without any experience all because of i got certified in Ocp.
i could master some skills working as Dba in short time.
thers are thousand of ocpians without job but you must
have will and self determination to get the job you want.
so best thing is practice your skills as much as you can
make full use of by joining in oracle Dba forums.
never be idle untill you get the thing you want.

Hello, Mr.Hunter. I have had no experience in IT field. I just have 2 years of calculus. I am taking a year off , reviewing my career options. I love math, but don't think I would make $125000 ever in my life as a mathematician. I found out Mr.Codd, who started rdb thing was a mathematician. So I started inquiring about Oracle DBA salaries, and found out they do make 125000 after about 5 years of real experience in places like NY, SF. Now, I'm greedy, but patient and realistic. Nobody would hire me as a full dba without real production experience just because I am OCP certified.( I woudn't either!) The reason I selected you for my question is that you seem like a guy least optimistic about OCP DBA deal. So I assume you would give me the most honest answer that Larry Ellison wouldn't give. Here is the plan......I am taking a fast track 6 months OCP DBA workshop at a local community college. I will be taking the tests along the way, and hopefully OCP certified. I am not looking for a full DBA position with 12500 salary. I am looking for a somekind of flunky junior dba or even a dbo position. I am not looking for 125ooo, I will be happy if they pay me a little bit above minimum wage, let me help them in full production environment. After maybe 2 to 5 years, I am going to start looking for a full dba position. I would be happy if they pay me 50000 in Iowa. I don't have a college degree. Please give me your honest answer about my prospect, not some feel good bs.

I will add that people saying "I have had no experience in IT field. I just have 2 years of calculus. " should learn much more (in college, Oracle Univeristy, by themselves) before even thinking of an ORACLE_DBA position.Quote:

Dear Julian, I don't think you read my entire post, I did say I will be attending 6 months OCP DBA workshop taught by OCP DBAs working in the local industry. I already have pretty good book knowledge of 8i. But I need hands on experience from the pros. That's why I am spending 4300 on that workshop. Of course, if all I had was 2 years of calculus, and expect an oracle job, that would be absurd.
I still think that a DBA should be a developer first. Practical knowledge of Oracle is important. You cannot learn only from books. This is not mathematics.Quote:

I would not hire a DBA without Oracle practical experience. Regardless of the fact that he might be an OCP.
OCP should come after experience, not vice versa!
