Hi,
I am an Oracle DBA with 3 years of DBA experience. However, I am new to Oracle Application. Our company is going to use Oracle App in the near future. To start my practice and learning, I installed 11.5.4 on a testing Win2000 machine and the installation is just fine. Now I can start the application GUI and start doing my practice.
Could some serior AppDBAs please share some of your experience and help with these questions:
1. What are the typical tasks or assignments for an App DBA to do when setting up the initial environment for the company?
2. What are the daily routine tasks for an App DBA?
3. What are the resource to look for?
Thank you!

DBA_Lisa,
Apps DBA is a technical position. The following are basic responsibilities of Application DBA:
1. Application installation/upgrade
2. Application patches, Database patches, upgrade patches, Interoperability patches etc.
3. Web Server Administration.
4. Concurrent Manager Administration/tuning.
5. System Administration. This includes creating a new Apps user, responsibility, definition of menus, forms, reports etc.
6. Other jobs similar to Oracle DBA.

Hi C.K
Can u list some book which covers configuration of Oracle Web Server 3.0.1 & Workflow in Oracle Apps Release 11.0.3
or can u recommend some URLs other than metalink
Thanx
-
C. K,
Thank you. I will try to find the answers for those questions!
Meanwhile, do you know how the job is coordinated between a "Functional Consultant" and a "Technical Consultant" (App DBA)?
Thanks a lot!
-
Hi shaan,
I think that metalink has pretty much good info on how to configure web servers. Otherwise check some books on web application and databases.
For DBA_Lisa,
You must have a project manager/director who really understands the roles of the functional and technical consultants for the project to be successful. The technical consultant can further be grouped into developers/programmers, system Administrator and Application DBAs.
