Hi, my question is during the log switch does the datafiles gets updated with new data? If yes, then what is the use of keeping archive log files on disk?

    thanks,
correct me if i am wrong but a log switch forces a checkpoint which causes dbwr to write out to the datafiles

you would want your archive logs kept (and backed up) for point in time recovery.

And how are you going to recover in case datafiles lost? You need archived logs to roll forward from the point of your last backup until as much as possible or any other desirable point of time in between
One, who thinks that the other one who thinks that know and does not know, does not know either!
