    Unhappy

I am using Oracle 8i In the DBA Studio I cannot start my Oracle Database

I go in as SYSDBA and then try to start the instance but it just keeps stopping on me. When I try to connect to it it tells me that Oracle is not running. How can I get oracle running and why is it stopped?

    Please help

I cant get the oracle service to start. According to Services on the Control panel all of the oracle services are started. When I try to start the oracle instance it just stops on me. it gives no error, just that red arrow adn then nothing.

Could you please instruct me on how to get the oracle to start?

    Thanks

Stop all the other services in control panel relating to oracle.

    c:\users>set oracle_sid = 'xxxx'

now try connecting thru DBA studio.

that is why I dont like GUI tools for Oracle, when it fails you dont know what and why it failed

If you still cant start the database then try command prompt, use sqlplus or svrmgrl in ms-dos to start the database
