So did you check your install.log file? Is there any error message in it? Do you have right OS version for that Oracle release? Do you have all the necessary patches installed on you server?
PS Oracle 8.0.4 is pretty unstable Oracle release. I suggest you to install at least Oracle 8.0.5 but O8.1.7 will be better.
