Did you stop the managed recovery process and try

ALTER SYSTEM SET STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT='MANUAL';

then do the renaming again

and then try

ALTER SYSTEM SET STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT='AUTO';

and restart the MRP
