Sorry to disappoint everyone - no double act . . . here's my "blog":

    - wasted about a week of "fiddling" time trying to get FC2 to recognise a prehistoric SCSI card (aha151) - in the end had to borrow something more modern.
    - wasted some more time running out of space (only have 0.4, 2.0 and 2.4 GB disks - basically it's scrap hardware).
    - had to learn about X-server 'coz I skrewed up over Tim Hall's*** installation instructions (my fault - logon and su AREN'T the same thing!)
    - "fiddled" a 9.2 db creation script until it worked for 10g.
    - netmgr & dbca ran "straight out of the box"

Actually I'm disappointed too - I haven't had half as much fun as ptreeves had What am I doing wrong?

Perhaps the only real disappointment was how much hard work the process was, if you don't have vast amounts of memory & disk. I'd installed Win2000 server and 8.1.7 on this machine in one evening (with time for dinner and playing with the cat) - couldn't do that with Fedora & 10g (even without the mistakes). Surprised how much resource Linux needs.

*** must add that, if followed to the letter, Tim's instructions work perfectly. Thanks Tim.
