We have oracle database on 7.3.2 on HP Unix 10.X. The OS was upgraded by SA to 11.X without taking an export full database backup. Since the upgraded version of OS does not support Oracle 7.3.2, this databse can not be started.

What's the best way to upgrade this database to 8.0.5.

    Thanks

Perform migration from 7.3.2 to 8.0.5 using the migration utility. I would also advise you to contact Tech Support regarding this migration for finer details.

    What I would do :

    install the 7.3.4 server software for HP-UX 11.x ( it's not the same CD as for HP-UX 10.20 ! )

change the oratab file so the instance uses the 7.3.4 sw instead of the 7.3.2 sw.

Next upgrade the db from 7.3.2 to 7.3.4 using the different upgrade scripts found in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin

    Run catalog,catproc,...

This must give you a working 7.3.4 db.

Now you can migrate from 7.3.4 to 8.0.5

    Hope this helps
    Gert
