well, you simply edit your init[SID].ora file, you look for the line "processes = ...", you change the value, and you just have to shutdown/startup your instance to have the new parameters ...
did I answer your question ??

    PROCESSES Parameter

    Hi, 24th April 2001 16:04 hrs chennai

Oracle Suggest for setting the PROCESSES parameter as follows.

The Processes parameter determines the maximum number of O/S processes that can be connected to Oracle concurrently. The value of this parameter must include 5 for the background processes and 1 for each user process. For eg if you plan to have 25 concurrent users set the PROCESSES parameter to at least as 30.

After arriving at this value as per your requirement as PIPO has said set the value in init.ora and bounce back the DB.

    Cheers

    User base

Hi Shruti, 24th April 2001 18:03 hrs chennai

It can be like this....But there will be a definite answer from a web-DBA who can answer this thread.

But how a web sites company does there premilinary assesment based on there user base they will fix the process limitations etc.

process management are required, and more users can be supported

Go through this web site even though it is irrelevant direct to your question

    Thanks Padmam!!

I've been facing problems sometime due to this PROCESSES parameter. As it (the site) has given error as to the number of processes exceeded. For the time being we've set it to a large value of 150 processes but feel, this isn't a proper way to handle the problem, not knowing how to set this parameter in a calculated way.

    MTS

Hi Shruti, 24th April 2001 19:18 hrs chennai

I would like to know whether your DB is running in MTS
    or Dedicated mode.

If in MTS what is the values you have set for different parameter you have set. What is the average users visiting the web site over a particular peak time etc.

    Cheers

    Well Padmam,

We are not using MTS we are on dedicated mode,
and the avg. users at the peak hour is around 800.

Do you think MTS would be better?

    MTS would definitely help

Hi Shruti, 25th April 2001 15:42 hrs chennai

Definitely MTS would Greatly help you in such cases.

For OLTP type of work like yours MTS will work fine.

If its going to be Batch job works then you can go for Dedicated mode.

You should really think going in depth of what oracle provides for web DB.There are many features especially for web DB which may not even be available for normal DB.

So try to contact oracle metalink support for your product support.

This is a some web sites on oracle web DB tools and on Web DB.
