I installed 8i on linux and i wanted to ask is there any way to have sql*plus show up on the start menu rather than constantly accessing it from the command line in linux. thanks!

your post has nothing to do in this forum ...
the answer to your question is : RTM, i.e : Read The Man.
you obviously have a Window Manager like KDE or so, and what you want to know is if you can add a shortcut for SQL*Plus, so read the KDE (or WindowMaker or whatever wm you have) man ...

personnaly I never use any wm unless really obligated, command line mode is by far what I prefer !!!

    Angry Damn..

I have the hardest time installing 8i on Linux, and still can't do it.

what flavor of Linux you using?
    what's your trick?

I tried to install 8i on RedHat 7.0
    always hang around 70%.

    thanks

Do you kind of see the hang when it installs the jserver. Then it is not a hand it takes a hell alot of time for the jserver installation. If that is the case you need some patience. One a 4processor 4GB RAM system it took almost 1hr to complete the jserver installation.

    Talking holly cows

I think you might be right..

but as far as your concern, haven't heard of any problem with redhat 7.0 though right?

    I'm gonna try again.

    thanks

8i is not certified on any RedHat > 6.2. Oracle recommends installing on 6.2 even though there are workarounds.
