We have a standby db set up and now I need to get the concepts of archiving down pat. We're a small shop running Oracle standard. So we want to be able to cause a log to be archived every 3 minutes - is this feasible or advised? Basically, were trying to create a synchronized db without breaking the bank. Thx for any help.

My question is "Are you sure that you have been successfull increating the STANDBY using the Oracle Standard edition ?"

I was under the impression that stand by db is not supported with the 8i STD? Any opinion on this?

Answering to your question of archiving: take a look into this thread.

yes - the option that is not part of standard is automatic application of archived logs from primary to standby
