oracle8i backup an recovery guide says that:

if you use a backup control file, then oracle starts media
recovery using the lowest of the following :the control file
SCN and the lowest SCN in the datafile headers.

does that means during the backup process, oracle will
update control file as well? so i can use backup control file
for complete recovery, and at the end of recovery, backup
control file will be updated to the same as the current control
    file.

Sure controlfile is updated during recovery if you use backup controlfile. And yes, you can use backup controlfile for full database recovery. But if you do so, you'll have to open the database with RESETLOGS option, which invalidates all previous archived logs. Saying this, it i selfunderstandable that you have to perform full backup as soon as possible after opening the database with resetlogs. Untill you do not perform a backup after resetlogs you are unarmed in the battlefield. That's why it is allways recommended to use the current controlfile for recovery whenever possible.

Yes, when the recovery completes, all dbf and controlfile(s) will have recovered to the max SCN found from the the arch log files.

if backup control file was updated to the same as the
current control file, why do i need to open database with
    resetlog option?
