I like to find out actual number of rows per table in an import dump before actually import the dump. Does SHOW option do this?

No, it does not. The only way to find out the number of rows to be imported is to have the log file of the export that created the dump.

You can first do the import using INDEXFILE option, this will create the table schema as well as telling you the row count.

if you wrote a script to do this.......... dont know if it would be worth it, how long it would take...........

Yes, you are totaly correct. In my reply I wasn't aware that INDEXFILE option also reports on the actual number of rows in the exported tables.
