As the dump files(.trc's) are piling up in the directory can i delete them and may be put a cron to delete it periodically.
is that feasible and ok to do that.
we do have a backup so in case we want to refer we can get them back.
Thanks in advance.
The files i mentioned are .trc files found in the bdump, cdump and udump directories, and the backup is taken regularly, and i'd want to delete files that are a month back.it is because that its occupying so much of precious space in the system. can i run a cron to do them.
Thanks a lot for the help,
You can delete these files. These are error trace files generated by different processes and user requested trace files such as backup control file to trace... and so on.
But I'm woried that you have consumed alot of storage space with these type of files as this is an indication of process failures.
cdump : location of core process trace
udump : location of user process trace
bdump : location of background process (alert log ...)
if most of the files are in udump folder, you may have a problem with the application that's accessing the database. Check some of the trace files and see what the actual cause is.
