You have only two options when your tablespace run outta space.

    1. Add a datafile
    2. Resize the existing file upto allowable limit.

Not many options to have a thought its safe or not. So, it is SAFE.

Did resize come in with 7.3.x or 7.3.4? Try to resize your datafile first. If you can't resize it, add is your only option.

just to add a little note, adding a file is easy, to get rid of it it´s pretty hard, actually only way is to export the objects and recreate the tablespace

-Yes- its valid clause in 734. Not sure about lower versions of 734, it might not be a valid clause..

I use RESIZE for my 734 database...whenever I run outta space.

I used to use "resize" in 7.3.3.

Also remember that "resize" can be used to reduce the size of a tablespace datafile.
