Hello,
What is the fast way to find the character set of a database (suppose that you lost the script used to create the db) ?
Thanks

Hi,
U can fire a query against v$parameter.The following is the query
select name,value from v$parameter where name like '%db%';
or
in server manager type
SVRMGR> show parameter db
In case of any help write to me at rohitsn@altavista.com

SELECT Name,Value$ FROM sys.props$ WHERE Name='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
-
v$parameter will not tell u character set or national character set.
Actually three ways:
As said before in thread, query sys.props$
2) alter database backup controlfile to trace (and open the trace file)
3) query v$nls_parameters
-
There is a public view provided for this:
SELECT * FROM nls_database_parameters WHERE parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
