Does any body know what the difference between defining one datafile and defining more than one datafiles in a tablespace is, assuming the tablespace sizes in two cases are the same.

    Thanks.

No diffrence if all the datafiles are going to ne in one location, except easier to deal with 2GB datafile for managing than 20 100MB datafiles.

Makes diffrence if you are going to keep these no of datafiles in differenct location from the I/O perspective. The time taking to bring block from datafile to buffer will be fast hence I/O will be efficient.

    Hope this helps.

One dbf per ts will also make administration easy and also in certain cases of db recovery.

One doubt..If the Datafile is big and single ..then there can be lot of I/O but if there are 2 datafiles then it can be evenly distributed to minimize I/O across disks.

True, unless if the hot segments are relocated to a different ts.
