i 'm using 8.04 nt on nt4 WS i try to use a network drive for my database files and i get and os error message
note the drive i want to use on the network is also a nt WS and not a server
What exactly the OS error u getting??
You can try this!!
1.Did you map that machine to any drive(e,f,g etc) in ur machine.
2.If you are mapped do you have the write permissions on the destination.
It doesn't matter whether you map the drive or not, whether you have permitions on the network drive or not. Oracle simply doesn't accept network-maped drives as being capable of storing database files.
I don't know NT (or Oracle's) internals enough to tell you the exact reason, but frankly I don't blame Oracle to refuse network drives as hosts for database files - there are just to many possibilities that something might go wrong with maped drives, IMHO the whole concept is simply to risky for RDBMS.
ASCII a stupid question, get a stupid ANSI
