Hi,
We are having sun sparc solaris os 5.7 and i'd like to install a patch, but when i searched oracle there are two versions of patch a 32 bit and a 64 bit version,
how do i find if its a 32 bit or 64 bit installation.
Thanks in advance,
Dharma.

Go to $ORACLE_HOME/bin
issue the command
$ file oracle
this will tell you what the database is.

Thanks a lot : but still one more Q
HI Sam,
Thanks for the help, was able to find out that its a 32 bit msb executable on sparc 1.0.
well my question is that the sun is a 64 bit processor is it ok to have 32 bit software on it or does it have to do with anything else.
and of course i'd be glad if u could tell me any ways to find os details any unix command(how may processors, ram, etc i tried to find but couldnt from the man).
Thanks a lot,
Dharma

On a 64bit OS you can run 32bit application. It is not a problem. Only thing that you would not be making use of the 64bit operation set to the fullest extent. On the other hand the 32bit oracle is safe to stick with, because, you would be getting the patchsets for the 32bit more quicker than that of the 64bit.
To find the type of os, try this
isainfo -v or
isainfo -vk
This would tell what type of applications are supported by your OS. The max value would mean that the OS of that type.
