Thread: TNS-12571 Packet Write Failure

    I had windows NT 4.0 with Oracle database. I upgraded my machine to windows 2000. The database was working in NT, but now I am getting TNS-12571 packet write failure. The listener crashes the moment I try to start it. The version of database is 8.1.6.

    I can ping to my machine. The database is up and I can connect without using the connect string. Since the listener is not up I cannot use connect string.

    Need some pointers to resolve this error.

    Hate NT. Try to upgrade again. Sometimes if the install is not clean (usually in the case of NT), a reinstall usually takes care of the problem.
