    Hi Friends,

I will be installing Oracle Applications 11.5.2 on sun sparc solaris 2.6 on a test system

I have the installation manual which doesnt tell anyting about semaphore settings in /etc/system
Is it necessary ? when i called ORACLE support, they said it is not necessary and just follow the manual.

if anybody has done a vision demo or test install, pls let me know.

    thanks in advance

Since Apps relies heavily on the oracle database, set up you /etc/system as you would if you were setting up oracle database. The vision database occupies about 350M of SGA, so plan accordingly.

    Hi Jeff,

Do u mind to give tips and necessary steps for me to continue with the installation of 11.5.2 . I am doing this on test system.

I am doing from a stage area.
I plan to do a single node installation.

i will do this now--, let me know if this is ok

    1. Edit the /etc/services file and add a line for listener which
listens on port number 1521. For this you type a line which looks like
    this :

    listener 1521/tcp/ #Oracle TNS Listener

    2. Add the following entries in /etc/system file :

    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=178257920
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=10
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=220
    set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767

Note this is dependent on the SGA size and available RAM in the
machine. The above settings are for SGA size of about 165MB with 100
    processes (or users).

    3. After this shutdown the unix server and start it again to proceed
    with the installation.

    thanks again
