Thread: oracle not available

    hi guys

    im having problem connecting to other db
    (i use connect uid/pwd@db_name)
    it gives me error that --ORACLE NOT AVAILABLE--
    anybody help me how can i fix this error please

    If this is ur problem, then check the availability of
    the remote database (whether it has been mounted and
    opened), also check for the environment which got set
    in ur machine.

    Hi,

    Check out if the DB is mounted and open.

    Check for the values of the environment variable ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME, change if necessary and export the values then try to start the database and access.

    It could be one of the following reasons:
    1. Your database was in the middle of shut down
    2. Your database might have gone down

    On either case there would have been an alert message on the alert log on the server. Check that to see what is the cause.

    Check also whether your listeners are running.
