We are Starting and Stopping Oracle Database through the Win NT Services.

I want to know what type of Paramater is defined in the Service while Stopping the Oracle whether it is Shutdown Immediate or Shutdown Normal or Abort.

    Thanks in Advance

Depends on what is set in the registry.
Check the value of this registry key.
    ORA_<SID>_SHUTDOWNTYPE
If it equals i, then its immediately. I believe 8.1.5 defaulted to abort.

    Hi..

I have checked the registry, there was parameter set as "i" but there is one more thing with shutdown as "30"

    What does this mean..

    Thanks for your information...

it means that NT will wait 30 seconds for the service to stop normally, and if it is still alive after 30 seconds, il will be killed ...

When you use any of the automatic script, either in unix or in windows, oracle would perform a shutdown abort. If you do not want this to be an abort operation, then you have to alter them to suit your requirement.
