There are so many things that are not mentioned in the technet. The problems I am facing are some bugs that are only found out 3-4 days ago.. Metalink has some docs that tell what you should be doing and expecting for 8.1.7 installation, but nothing can beat the experiences we are facing.. I need such issues so I can expect them and prevent them..
    Thanks

I just installed 8.1.7 on an Solrais 2.8 yesterday.
The only thing, which the doc is suck, is:

You need to run runInstaller in other directory other
than /cdrom/oracle8, and Oracle doc. says
    run it under /cdrom/oracle8.

If you run runInstaller under /cdrom/oracle8, you will
not be able to switch to Disk2.

    So, I did install twice!

    Maybe, you are right.

But for seasoned DBAs, who really reads the f***
    install doc?
