hi folks
any ideas on this one? i am running an erp application which stores its data in some 8654 tables recently i was runninga query like
select * from
dba_tables;
i was surprised to receive an error abou rollback segment being too old even though i was doing a select statement only there was no other user logged in at this moment
other than me.
thanks is advance

hi lakshmi
the problem has been solved (sounds bit stratnge) as this time i was not able to reproduce the error.but waht stil beats me is why did it occur in the first place as i was not performing any dml

read about this error in metalink for detials.
From my understanding, this error can happen provided query is long enough to make one round in a rollback segment's allocated extents and ANY transaction(eg. oracle background processes) has(or has before query started) activity on tables involved in the query.
The only solution I know is to have optimal settings for rollback segment used for transaction under consideration large enough.
