Yes you will need the Oracle Agent if you want to perform Oracle Hot Backups using RMAN.

It is the best out there and I strongly recommend using it if you want to automate your tape management, backups and tape rotation schedules.

    Question

This program gave me problems. I know it is an industry standard but Ifollowed the instructions to the T and still no dice. Does RMAN need to be integrated with it some how. I didn't configure RMAN, I just installed the agent, configured it and ran a hot backup. The log file showed success, but when I tried to restore using the three methods given (Cold restore, Hot restore, and seperate tablespace restore), my efforts were fruitless. Any suggestions?

First make sure that your rman scripts are working properly. Then try
to integerate with Netback. It takes some trial and error to get netbackup
to function with rman. Veritas supplies some scripts that you might want
to modify for hot and cold backups. Once this script works then schedule
    your backups using netbackup agent.

I have got it to work in the past, but it takes some effort (trial and error is
    the only solution).

    Good luck!
