Actually I am going to drop a database.I would like to reinstall the same database with the same data again if needed. So I have decided to do a exp dba/pwd@dbname full=y file=ex.dmp.Will this dump file will be sufficient alone to create the same data.If not let me know. Moreover right now we are having ORACLE 8.1.6 & we may need to retain the database but in ORACLE 8.1.7.I WAS WONDERING WHETHER WE NEED TO BACK UP CONTROL FILES,INIT FILES,REDOLOGS & DATAFILES.Is it needed to be backed up or we can just create a blank database & just do a imp dba/pwd@dbname file=ex.dmp.Hope this will create the necessary tablespaces, datafiles etc etc.If I am wrong please correct me

You can recreate your database using
Logical Backup : Full export/import with full=y option
Cold backup: Having all the datafiles, controlfiles, logfiles and parameter files in respective locations and creating database using create conrol file.
Which option you use, its your preference. If database is too big 2nd option is better otherwise first option is also fine.
