Thread: Drives for hot spares

    Hi everybody,


    Talking about spreading database files accross disks, IT guy give this sentence: '2 * 36GB, 10,000 RPM drives for hot spares'.
    What hot spares include?

    Typically, hot spares don't have a filesystem created on them. They just sit idle until one of the other drives fail. I usually like 1 Hot spare for every 20-30 drives in an array.
