    Talking

    Platform :
Oracle 8.1.6 EE on Windows 2000 Advanced Server

    Problem :
I have a production database that has got 2 log file groups , each has 2 members , every time I shutdown the database normal , when starting it again I find that one of the log file groups has got a status of STALL , I always use server manager to start and shutdown cleanly , I dropped and recreated new Log groups but still having the same symptom.

When forcing a log switch it switches ok while database is open.

I forced both checkpoints & log switches prior shutting up but still have the same problem.

    Thank You

    Hi,

Why can't you try the following procedure.......

Try to rearrnage the Logfile group in seperate drive. Since you've cleaned and also switching the logfile is working fine, changing the logfile in another drive may solve your problem.

    regards..

Thank You for the reply but I noticed the incoming :

I have a script that shutdowns the database automatically as follows :
    cd\
    set oracle_sid=prod
    svrmgrl @d:\works\admin\stop.sql
    net stop oracleserviceprod
    lsnrctl stop listener

svrmgrl @d:\works\admin\stop.sql => contains : connect internal + shutdown normal

    I noticed that :
-When shutting down the database from the server manager the Win2000 service remain active ( not stopped )
-When starting the database again ( before stopping the service ) the database starts with no stalled logfiles.
-When shutting down the service manually and restarting everything ( using server manager ) I get Stall logfile goups.

I found it , It was a Windows 2000 service corrupt , dropped it and recreated it via oradim and everything is fine.
